seeker of knowlege, protector of the environment, worker for justice, artist, and chaser of sunsests among other things.

 Hi there!

I am so glad you decided to drop by!  I have long valued one to one and small group gatherings because of the connection they offer. It is in these times I am afforded the opportunity  to get to know some of the many facets of the person I am interacting with more deeply.
In our hustle bustle world, there is often not enough time for more than a quick greeting as we do business or go about our lives. More elusive than that is the time for a meaningful conversation or a shared meal. I am so grateful that technology allows us to connect with one another despite, distance, difference in time zones, or incompatible schedules.
As I get closer to my most authentic self, it becomes increasingly important to me to know who I am "doing business"with, beyond the terms of the contract or scope of the project. This is one way I exercise my privilege to care for the Earth and her inhabitants. I do business with individuals and organizations who support justice and equality in their policies and practices. To that end, I have chosen not to have seperate personal and professional websites.I instead have a site that allows you to get to know more of the spectrum of who I am .
So, who am I?
One component of my mindfulness/gratitude/
manifestation practice is daily affirmations. The one that I end my affirmation/meditation session is :
"Let every thought, word and action be a reflection of my gratitude for the amazing blessings I recieve daily, and the unknown blessings already on their way."
If I were to choose one word to describe myself, it would have to be grateful. I have an active gratitude practice that permiates every area of my life.
I have been an advocate for equality and justice since childhood. My activism takes place at demonstrations, through volunteer work and community involvement and in the way I spend my consumer dollars.
My gratitude practice is closely connected to my mindfulness practice. Both are components of my holistic approach to life and health.
It is my goal to be as engaged as possible whatever I am doing at the moment. I have learned that the quality of attention I bring to a thing generally directly effects my satisfaction with that experience.  The peace in my heart and the life that thrives in my yard serve as guages indicating my level of balance and harmonious living.
I am grateful to live in a beautiful city where I can enjoy an active lifestyle year round.
To that end I live sustainably as my budget allows, and continue to make improvements as my resources allow.
I grow some of my own food and am able to trade with others for things I don't grow.
I conserve water a number of different ways. I adhere to a practice of using all water that comes out of a faucet at least two times before it goes down a drain...if it ever does. I catch dish water in bins as I wash and use that water to irrigate the garden/flowers. If there's a lot of food scrap in the water, I use that water for the compost. I eat a plant based diet and most of my food  waste though there is very little, is compostable, so there is no worry about non organic matter in the compost. I also catch the shower water as it warms up and I catch the water that drains from the washing machine, using all  of that water to irrigate plants and trees. I live in a desert climate and despite the delusional denials of others, I have seen the effects of climate change in my region and around the world. My region is almost always in drought conditions. This practice of reusing water extends the resources we have.
Some of the other ways I take action to protect the environment are that I carry my own reuseable utensils and use a silicone alternative to
zip seal bags. I carry a reuseable water bottle and avoid purchasing items in single use containers when possible. There are times when I have to buy single servings, I repurpose the contrainers whenever I can
My back yard is host to 19 different kinds of birds. I am particularly delighted that I have a lot of bees and several kinds of butterflies too. These precious pollenators are attracted by plants, flowers, bushes and trees that I irrigate primarily with grey water.

When asked what I do, I often say, jokingly that I am a beach bum with a job. I spend a lot of time in the water

when my schedule allows, but I also love the beautiful hiking  trails and bike paths around the unceded Kumayaay Land currently known as  San Diego, California where I live. I respect the culture and traditions of the Kumayaay nation, the original and ongoing caretakers of this land. In part that means I live in alignment wth these traditions I treat the Earth and her inabitants respectfully as an act of repararation for harm done by my ancestors to the Kumayaay and other indigenous peoples.

Over the years I have focused on creating a healthy work/restore balance. I often tip the scale on the professional and volunteer sides, but more often these days I can be found among the waves on

my longboard or stand up paddleboard. I am an unrepentant aguaholic-a word I made up to describe my love of the water, especially in large bodies, and the actvities done there.

I am a Master Manifester and love to share my experiences manifesting amazing outcomes in my life including a loving relationship with an amazing woman, a beautiful home,  work that I love  and amazing experiences in my current home town and abroad. I have released the lies of lack and limits. My life is a reflection of that. I am truly living the dream in so many ways! From working in professions that feel more like a calling than a job, to creating time to explore my hobbies and prioritize my health despite livng with Multiple Sclerosis for over twenty years, I am truly a Co- Creator of a wonderful life! As much as I love to celebrate my blessings, I also love to teach others how I achieved such an amazing life, with tools we all carry within us.

I have been a practitioner and beneficiary of the Law of Attraction for over four decades, long before I had the language to describe my practice.
I am, among other things, an Empowerment Coach, adept at helping individuals and groups define and achieve personal and professional goals. Though we sometimes fail to realize it, we all have within us the answers to what separates us from living in our highest potential. I love guiding others as they define and erradicate those barriers!

In November of 2023 I will be launching my Empowerment Coaching website, with live webinars starting on December 1, 2023 I took this leap after decades of using ny natural skills with friends and colleagues, and years of personal and professioal development, with a goal of reaching a broader community. Depending on four decades of formal and informal study,  I guide others within to find the source of imbalances that are seperating them from their highest potential. I will be working with other empowerment leaders to bring webinars, present online and in person workshops and offer e-courses designed to help site visitors recognize and realize their full potential. I take a

One of the ways I am living my dream is that I work as an American Sign Language/English and Pro-Tactile ASL/English Interpreter. The latter is used with people who are Deaf-Blind and incorporates physical cues to indicate the "listener's" reaction or response,

environmental information, or to describe supportive media such as slides or graphs and charts during a presentation.

I fell in love with sign language when I saw interpreters while on family vacation in Michigan when I was thirteen years old.
My love of learning and openess to new experiences suit me perfectly for this profession.  There are so many aspects of interpreting that I love, but my favorite is seeing the connection between the people I am serving as a language/cultural conduit for.

My committment to accessibility goes beyond the work day, as I often volunteer my services  at community events, focusing on accessibility. One of the ways I practice social activism with what I have on hand (like what I did there?) is by volunteering to interpret for organizations who share my committment to justice and equality for all beings, for the Earth and environment that sustains us.

I work in a variety of settings from medical and mental health appointments, to religious services and ceremonies,  tech conferences, civic events and concerts. While  I don't have a favorite genre to work in, I have a natural affinity for interpreting music. I don't sing vocally, and love the wide range of possibilty for lyrical expression that ASL offers. I have had the priviledge of being the permanent interpreter for the San Diego Women's Chorus for over 2 decades.

I am a freelance interpreter who works traditional and non traditional hours. I can be contracted directly by clicking the link below, through any agency in the San Diego area and  many national agencies by request. I work both face to face and via the internet on platforms such as Zoom, Google Meets and Streamyard.

If you would like to book me as an interpreter or if you would like to learn some best practices when working with an interpreter click the link or the Interpretation button

Surprise!

When 2016 started, I thought the highlight of my year would be a three week trip to Europe that included London (still part of the EU at that time), Paris and surrounding cities, Milan,Firenze and Rome. Imagine my surprise when six months after my return home, I lived out a manifestation I had been working on for years.  No one could have been more surprised than me when even THAT wasn't the highlight of my year!
What would you say if I told you the highlight of my year in 2016 and every moment since started with an airplane flight that I missed by mere minutes? I literally watched the plane taxi back from the gate as I walked up.
I was traveling home from Denver, Colorado where the GALA Festival of Choruses was convened for a week of choral comraderie. I was at the event with the San Diego Women's Chorus, interpreting thier performances into American Sign Language. While many members of our chorus attended the entire event, I made arrangements to come home a little early for a prior committment.
In the short couple of days I was in Denver, I made a connection with Luisa, a woman I had known for about 30 years, though not well. After spending time together with friends throughout the confrence, I knew I wanted to spend more time with Luisa. After our final performance when several friends, including Luisa went to lunch, I took a chance of missing my flight and joined  them.

Lunch was great, the company better. Though I missed my flight, I still made it home at my scheduled time. Thank you Southwest Airlines! Luisa returned home a few days later, and our relationship  has formed and grown naturally, mindfully and easily since.
I love sharing life with a woman who respects the Earth and truly cares about humanity and the individuals who make up humanity. Luisa  is a beautiful example of finding joy where you are, creating joy whenever possible, and taking time to enjoy moments and make memories.

Luisa has been patient with me as create a more sustainable work, restore balance that allows us to take short getaways and longer vacations.
While vacations are wonderful, we are blessed to come home to paradise. We are sunset chasers and secret swing finders. We both enjoy photography and often find ourselves on "photo dates".

Here are some of my favorite memories of us caught on camera.

I NEVER saw this coming!

Living With Multiple Sclerosis

MS is always in the background -unless it's in the foreground-of everything I do.
In January of 2000, I was diagnosed with Mulitiple Sclerosis when an MRI of my brain showed lesions on my right parietal lobe and temporal lobe. This followed more than three years of chasing my sometimes vague and elusive but generally perisistant symtoms through diagnostic testing. I  have learned to live with MS, at first resisting  or ignorning my symptoms, literally driving myself to a physical and emotional breakdown in my struggle for acceptance. Over the past two decades I have come to a place of acceptance, honoring my symptoms while continuing to pursue the life of my dreams through time with my family, my hobbies that balance me, and entrepreneurial adventures that are further expressions of my most authentice self. I am very forturnate to be surrounded by an amazing villiage of family, framily, friends as well as some stray kitties and a wonderful puppy.

I sometimes struggle to find the balance of honoring my illness and the disability it causes and pushing it to the background so that I can put my energy into other things.
How does Multiple Sclerosis (MS) effect my life?

For eleven years I shared my home and heart with my beautiful "Labracuteador" (Lab, something cute mix), Sequoia Louise von Slobbergator.

In March of 2022, I got a "spirit sparkle" which is what I call it when my spirit recognizes something and reacts in a sparkle of energy running through me. I told Luisa that it was time for me to start looking for my new dog. It felt strange to say that because I still miss Sequoia deeply and certainly wasn't finished grieving her.  I had my mind set on a hypoallergenic poodle or poodle mix as Luisa and I are both allergic to animal dander. The size of a standard poodle, the doganality of poodles and their hypoallergenic coat made a poodle or poodle mix a natural choice.
Later that month, I had a knowing, while reading a book, that my new dog's name was Pono. In Hawaiian, Pono means approved by the Spirits, or righteous. Less than a week after that awareness, my sister from another mister Geneva sent a message with a photo of the most precious labrador puppy. She said she wanted to gift her to me, and that she had chosen her specially for me, out of a litter of eleven. She added that I could choose a different puppy if I didn't want this particular one. I went with her choice and with that decision, I recieved the gift that Sequoia sent and Geneva delivered.  On May 1, 2022, Pono Ono Poocheroo came home to her forever home.

I adopted Sequoia from Craigslist. She was being re-homed by a wonderful woman named Lauren. Lauren first met Sequoia on the side of the road in the Sequoia National Forest ( hence her name). Lauren, a vet tech, had seen this lonely pooch trying to cross the road, she was moving too fast to stop safely and cirlcled back.By the time Lauren got off the freeway and circled back, Sequoia had attempted to cross the road, been hit, dragged and rolled and left by the side of the freeway. Lauren called ahead to cancel family plans, scooped Sequoia up and brought her home to San Diego. There Lauren and her team nursed Sequoia to health for 8 months, rebuidling tissue while avoiding infections on her left hip and leg, and several spots throughout her body.
Lauren, already a dog owner brought Sequoia home when it was safe to do so, and Sequoia continued her rehab hiking the trails and peaks around San Diego. When Sequoia was fully recovered, Lauren made the hard decision to rehome her do to space.
My partner at the time, Alex, saw an ad on Craigslist and I was looking for a young adult dog, so we sent a message to Lauren.
The love was instant. Sequoia and I bonded as if we had been together forever. Folks who knew us often said we had a unique connection and communication.
Sequoia  could often be found at my side, whether on the trail, on my paddleboard, or cuddled up for a nap. I loved watching her run freely, splashing in water chasing balls and chasing her tail.

On August 2, 2021 I kissed Sequoia's nose and burried my face in her fur for the last time. After a couple of days of visits from some of her favorite local people,  then  a day visiting the dog park, dog beach and tasting any flavor of frozen yogurt she wanted, I cuddled Sequoia and whispered in her ear as she crossed  the Rainbow Bridge. I whispered what I had told her at every meal I served her, that she is the best dog ever, ever, ever in the history of all the evers. I whipsered that I loved her and would miss her endlessly until we are together again. Then I whispered that I wouldn't know how to find a companion as amazing as her again, so when the time is right, and she was ready  please train my next poocheroo until she was almost as good as Sequoia, and then send her to me.

Becoming a Diamond

One of the things I like best about myself is that I am brave enough to say "yes to things that make me uncomfortable-the right kind of uncomfortable if it will help me improve myself or help me achieve a goal.
I have had some really amazing experiences because I have bravely said "Yes".
Not only have I had super cool experiences, I have learned a lot about myself. (Isn't that omne of the goals of our time on Earth after all?). One of the things I  have learned is that I MUST explore the things that interest me, and if something makes me wanna run in the opposite direction, but isn't harmful, I need to run toward it. Experience teaches me that there is a valuable lesson.
